City Deck

This Wellington city terrace was windy and exposed to adjacent high rise apartments (see bottom right pic). The clients wanted a sophisticated and inviting space that felt more enclosed, and gave shelter and options for year round use.

We designed and installed a removable deck surface, a covered shed-like structure with open walls, a fine slatted screen around the perimeter, and a series of moveable benches and boxes. The result is an adaptable space that has both open and intimate spaces that can be rearranged with the seasons. The elements provide scale, protection, and enclosure to a site that was exposed and uninviting. The additions have transformed the way the clients use their apartment and added valuable livable space.
